Note:  John William Berkel, Muskegon:  We received this information from a descendant of Mr. Berkel.  Thank you very much for your information!
He lived in Muskegon, Mi. and volunteered and went into the cavalry and was sent to Bard, NM.  He developed TB.  The government requested a member of the family travel out there and help to care for him.  A sister Hazel went out there to assist in his care.  It was decided that he could not recover and was sent home to die.  He passed away August 11, 1920.  After John arrived home a younger sister Dorothy contracted TB from him and died in 1922.  His sister Hazel contracted TB from Dorothy and died in 1925.
