Copies of most military and medical reports are made available upon request to the next-of-kin...i.e. un-remarried spouse, child, parent or sibling of a veteran.  Generally there is no cost for this service.

The National Archives and Records Administration has a printable form on-line for requesting copies of  Military Records or replacement Military Service Medals, Decorations or Awards.
