Here 42 Years, Dies at Age 84  Mrs. Anna Tangney, 1093 Sanford street, a resident here 42 years and mother of Raymond Tangney, a local real estate broker, died today at her home after a brief illness.  She was 84 years old.  Mrs. Tangney was born Nov. 9, 1872, in Amherstberg, Canada, moving to Grand Rapids before coming here.  Formerly Miss Anna Burns, she was married in Grand Rapids in 1899 to Daniel Tangney.  Mr. Tangney died Feb. 15, 1951, in Muskegon.  A communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, she leaves her son, Raymond, of Muskegon, and a daughter, Mrs. Howard Slusser of Michigan City.

THOMSON, Jessie M. (Mrs.) Meek
Obituary

Mrs. Jessie M. Thomson, 103, a resident of the Peabody Memorial Home, North Manchester, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday after a five year illness. She had been a resident there 28 1/2 years, coming from Roann.  Mrs. Thomson was born may 15, 1868, near Atlanta, Indiana, the daughter of Jessie W. and Anna (Bowman) Meek.  She was a member of the Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was married to Mr.G.T.Thomson, who preceded her in death. A niece, Miss Ethel Flora, Denver, survives.  Funeral services will be in the Peabody Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m. Monday with Supt.William Visser officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Roann.  Friends may call at the Bender Funeral Home, North Manchester, after 7p.m. Sunday.

THORNTON, Anna (Mrs.) McGordon

May 1921 – Wife of Prominent Business Man Dead – Mrs. William Thornton died at Hackley hospital at 7 o’clock Thursday morning after a short illness.  Mrs. Thornton’s maiden name was Miss anna McGordon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McGordon.  She was born in this city in 1862.  She leaves besides her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Paul Meeske, and one brother , Charles McGordon; six grandchildren.  The funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Meeske, 15 lake street, Rev. Walter F. Tunks, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal church officiating.  Friend please omit flowers.

THORNTON, John

June 27, 1921 – Pioneer Resident Passes Away After Thirty Years Here – John Thornton, a pioneer resident of Muskegon, died Saturday morning at his home, 37 Prospect street, after a short illness, aged 70 years.  Mr. Thornton was born in Lincolnshire, England, coming to Canada at the age of two years.  He came to Michigan when seventeen years of age and settled at Owasso, later returning to London, Canada.  From there he went to East Tawas, Michigan, where he lived for five years, coming to Muskegon thirty years ago.  He had since made his home here.  Mr. Thornton was a locomotive engineer, having spent practically all his working days on the railroad.  He was a member of the Macoabees, and of the Canadian Order of Foresters.  He leaves, besides his wife, four children, George Thornton of Muskegon Heights, Andrew Thornton, Ormand Thornton, and Mrs. Lottie Nibblenink, all of Muskegon; eight grand children; one brother and one sister.  James Thornton of Windsor, and Mrs. Ann Scarce of London, Canada.  The funeral service will be held at 2:30 o’clock, Tuesday afternoon, from the residence, 37 Prospect street, Rev. W. Ernest Collins, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Charles E. Thorp, 85 years old, died at his home on R.R. No. 4, Muskegon Monday afternoon.  Born in Ohio on March 15, 1857, he has lived for many years in Muskegon.  He has no relative living.

Funeral services and burial of Willard Timerson, 47 years old, Twin Lake, county highway commission employee who was fatally injured while at work Thursday will be held Monday in Holton.  Coroner Harold A. Wood said he had decided not to call an inquest, after obtaining eyewitness accounts of the accident at Maple Island bridge.  Mr. Timerson leaves, besides his widow, Bertha, three sisters, Mrs. Maude Armstrong and Miss Marjorie Timerson, both of Lansing……

TINSLEY, Frances (Mrs.) Mathers

2900 N. Whitehall Rd.  Muskegon Chronicle, 26 Dec 1972.  Mrs. Frances Tinsley, age 81 yrs. passed away unexpectedly Monday evening at Muskegon General Hospital after a lingering illness. She was born Aug 21, 1891 in Newton, England and came to this country in 1923 and settled in Muskegon where she has lived except for 10 years spent in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was the former Frances Mathers and was married to William Tinsley on Jan 12, 1913 in Newton, England. She was a charter member of Eastlawn Reformed Church and of the British Commonwealth Club. She is survived by her husband; one son, William Tinsley Jr. of Muskegon; 2 grandsons; 3 great grandchildren and 3 sisters in England. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sytsema chapel, Rev. Louis H. Benes, Jr. officiating and interment will be in Mona View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 7:00 pm this evening and where they may meet the family from 7-9 pm today and 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Wendesday. – Sytsema

TINSLEY, William, Sr.

Mr. William Tinsley, Sr. age 82 years, passed away this morning at Hart, Mich. he was born Aug 16, 1893 at Staffordshire County, England and came to this country in 1923 and has resided in Muskegon until moving to Pentwater 2 years ago. He was married to the former Frances Mathers on Jan 12, 1913 in Newton, England and she passed away Dec 25, 1972 at Muskegon. He was employed at teledyne Continental Motors for many years until his retirement in 1958. He was a charter member of Eastlawn Ref. Church where he had served in the consistory, and had served in the British Army during World War I and received the Victoria Cross Medal. He is survived by 1 son, William, Jr., of Pentwater, 2 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sytsema Chapel with Rev. Allen Cook officiating. Interment will be in Mona View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 7:00 p.m. this evening where they may meet the family 7-9 pm and 2-4 and 7-9pm on Tuesday. For a more lasting memorial please consider the Memorial Fund of Eastlawn Ref. Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. –Sytsema

Tolen, Mrs. Ole A.

Muskegon News Chronicle, Muskegon, Michigan, 6 March 1912  Mrs. Ole A. Tolen died yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock at her home, 139 Montgomery street after an illness of about seven weeks.  Mrs. Tolen was born at Wermland, Sweden, October 7, 1850, being in her sixty-second year at the time of her death.  She came to the United States in 1881, locating at Manistee, and came to Muskegon in May of 1881.  During that same month she was married to Ole A. Tolen.  She leaves, besides her husband, two sons, Oscar and Almer Tolen, one sister, Betty Olson and one brother, John Olson.  The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:15 o’clock at the residence, 139 Montgomery street, and at 3 o’clock at the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev. J.T.O. Olander, the pastor, will conduct the services.  Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Obituary of Jospeh LeRoy Travis, Muskegon Daily, 2 December 1891, page 7, col. 3
Travis-Tuesday, Dec. 1, at his residence on Moriarty street, Joseph L. Travis, of pneumonia, aged 38 years. The funeral will take place from the residence Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Deceased was born in Cattaraugus county, New York, and has resided in this city the past ten years employed at his trade as a painter. He leaves a wife and three small children. (Note: a fourth child, Edna L., was born five months after his death.

L .J Travis, Life resident, Dies at Age 77 LeRoy J. Travis, 77, of 393 Marquette Ave., died early today at Muskegon Osteopathic Hospital after a seven-month illness. Born Sept. 2, 1886 in Grand Rapids, Mr. Travis moved to Muskegon and spent most of his life here. He was married to the former Lily R. Wood, May 10, 1910 at Grand Rapids. He had been employed many years at the former Titzjohn Coach Co. and for 21 years at Lyons Machine and Tool Co. until his retirement in 1959. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Lincoln Lamphere and Mrs. Arthur Druif, both of Muskegon; one son, Thomas L. of Muskegon and Mrs. Thomas Rayner of Panama City, Fla; one half sister, Mrs. Cecil Engle of Muskegon, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Travis, Mrs. Lily R. 233 Buys Rd. N Muskegon Mrs. Lily R. Travis, age 88, passed away this morning at a local nursing home. She was born Aug. 31, 1892 in Muskegon and has been a life resident. She was the former Lily R. Wood and was married to LeRoy J. Travis in 1910 and he passed away in 1964. She was a Fifth Generation Mother being survived by 1 son, Thomas L. Travis, two daughters, Mrs. Lincoln (Edna) Lamphere and Mrs. Arthur (Evelyn) Druif; 1 sister, Mrs. Mary Zeleznik, all of Muskegon area, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday from Sytsema Chapel with Rev. John W. Reishus officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 7 p.m. this evening where they may meet the family 7-9 p.m.----Sytsema

Grand Haven  Formerly of Muskegon  Muskegon Chronicle - Muskegon, MI October 24, 1995  Mrs. Ruth K. Treptow, 85, died Sunday evening, Oct. 22, 1995 at the home of her nephew in Grand Haven. She was born Apr. 16, 1910 in Oceana Co., the daughter of Rudolph and Clara (Burmeister) Klopp, and had lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. she had been a receiving clerk at Teledyne prior to her retirement and was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church. She married Arthur Treptow on Nov. 15, 1928 in Muskegon, and he preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1973. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Dorothy Neeley of NC, Rudy Klopp of Grand Haven, Jerald Klopp of VG, Robert Klopp of CT, Floyd Klopp of N.Muskegon and Anita Bishop of GA. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Helen Krueger, Florence Cox, Erwin Klopp and Walter Klopp. Services will be held Wednesday, 1pm from The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. with Rev. Glenn McWilliams, officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation : one hour prior to service. Suggested memorials: American Cancer Soc., American Heart Assn., or Samuel Lutheran Church.

Muskegon News Chronicle, Muskegon, Michigan, 6 March 1912  The funeral of Miss Myrtle Trost, formerly of Muskegon, who died February 29, after a nine weeks’ illness with typhoid fever, was held Saturday afternoon, March 2, at 2:30 o’clock.  Miss Trost was born in Muskegon in 1892, being 20 years of age at the time of her death.
