Obituary
Muskegon Chronicle Muskegon, Michigan 2 November 1946 Page 2
Veteran Found Dead in Auto The body of Adrian L. Ramthun, 22 years
old, 441 Allen avenue, formerly of Whitehall and White River, and a World War II
veteran, was found seated behind the wheel of his auto in Dalton township,
Friday, by a hunter who notified officers. Fred Ramthun, the father, had reported the son as missing, Oct. 29. Coroner Harold A. Wood said Adrian had
been dead about three days. Deputies Ray Gillan and Harvey Hancock reported that a hose had been
placed into the rear of the auto through the trunk. A letter was found in the car, addressed
to Ramthun's sweetheart in Muskegon saying he had suffered from headaches for
three weeks. Adrian, born in White
River township on June 18, 1924, worked in Grand Rapids for a time upon
receiving his discharge from the armed services last December. Recently he obtained employment in
Muskegon where his family had moved. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ramthun, of Muskegon; one
sister, Mrs. Charles Svensson, Whitehall; a grandmother, Mrs. Lewis Meinert,
Muskegon; and a grandfather, Fred Ramthun, Whitehall. The body was taken to the Gee Funeral
home where services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m., by the Rev. Carl D.
Bostrom of Lebanon Lutheran church. Burial will be in Oak Grove, Whitehall.

(Mrs.)
Obituary
Muskegon
Enterprise, Muskegon, Michigan Friday, 17 March 1871, page 1
Death of Mrs. Alexander Rodgers Died, on Saturday, March 11, 1871, at
2:30 p.m., Mrs. Jeannette Rodgers, aged 42. A brief announcement, and one which from
the nature of her demise, shocked and startled the whole community, and has
fallen upon her household as a grievous calamity. The death of Mrs. Rodgers was the result
of an accident. She was standing
upon a chair arranging a window curtain when she slipped upon the treacherous
foothold, and fell in such a manner and with such force that severe internal
injuries were sustained, and in the short space of ten minutes she was
dead. To the last moment of her
existence she was conscious, and to her husband’s anxious inquiry as to what had
happened, feebly murmured “I am dying”. At 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, she was in the enjoyment of vigorous
health. At 3:15 a telegram was
received at Detroit bearing to friends a sudden and sad announcement. On the Monday morning following, a
letter was received from Sunderland, England, written by her father, asking when
her promise to visit him in the home she had left twenty-four years since, was
to be redeemed, and instructing her to say how many of the members of her family
would accompany her, desired also to be informed of the time she would start and
he would meet her in Liverpool. “Man proposes and God disposes.” The kind paternal words were destined never to reach his beloved
daughter. A sister, woman-grown,
whom Mrs. Rodgers had never seen she was fated not to see. Numbered among the loved and lost, she
had gone alone on that longer journey beyond the grave, “to that bourne from
which no traveler returns.” She was
a friend of the unfortunate, the helper of the needy, the brave, good woman,
whose welcome presence in the chamber of suffering and disease, gave forth
light, and courage, and cheerfulness and hope. The immense concourse which composed the
funeral procession testified silently and impressively to the wide-spread and
universal respect for the deceased, and sympathy for the family. The workmen of the “Muskegon Iron
Works”, of which Mr. Rodgers is proprietor, attended the funeral in a body,
(their labor at this hurried season of the year being suspended for two
days.) The Firemen also as a
distinctive organization formed part of the funeral cortege, and citizens to the
number of several hundred on foot and in carriages. At the church the Rev. Mr. Cook preached
a most eloquent, well-considered, and appropriate discourse. There in the presence of death, in the
presence of many in attendance, who are “busy about many things”, while that one
thing necessary receives but little consideration, the Reverend gentleman failed
not in his duty, but impressively awoke the reflection of his hearers to the
suggestive and supreme lesson of the hour. The hymns by the choir were judiciously selected and very creditably
rendered. The ceremonies being
closed the procession took up its line of march to the cemetery, where at the
grave the benediction was pronounced, and the mortal remains filled yet another
“narrow house” in that city of the dead. Far from the home where her years of happy childhood were passed, she
slumbers now! To her bereaved
husband, to whom the anguish of this visitation is bitter and overwhelming, to
her children, now more than ever sensible of her worth, she leaves a memory
fragrant with unnumbered proofs of devotion to their welfare, and of boundless
love.
