Thief River Falls, MN - Formerly of Muskegon - Evelyn “Evie” Dolores Kalmoe, 79, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, MN.  Funeral Services will be 2:00pm on Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating.  Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Friday, September 21, 2001 at the Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7pm prayer service on Friday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Zion Lutheran Foundation or Zion Lutheran Radio Ministry, 505 Main Ave. North, Thief River Falls, MN 56701

Muskegon - Mrs. Gladys B. Kammers, age 85, died Tuesday evening.  September 18, 2001, at a local hospital following a short illness.  She was born July 9, 1916 in Muskegon and was a life long resident.  The former Gladys B. Burak married Nobel Stuberg and he preceded her in death.  She later married Chris Kammers.  He also preceded her in death.  She was employed as a bartender at various taverns throughout the Muskegon area.  Survivors:  her daughters, Phillis M. (John) Jaenicke, Rose Ann (Chris) Horton and Audrey H. Amburgey all of Fruitport, and Judy M. Hoffmeyer of Muskegon;  her twin sister Hellen I. Burak of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Phillip N. in 1990.  A memorial service will be held Friday 11am at the Lee Funeral Home with Fr. Thomas J. Hack officiating.  Interment:  Mona View Cemetery.  Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home beginning one hour prior to the service.  Memorials:  American Cancer Society.

KELLY,  Margaret Mary (Mrs.) LeFevre
Obituary

Muskegon, MI Margaret Mary Kelly, 81, passed away at her home October 8, 1994.  She was born to Charles and Eugenia LeFevre on February 9, 1913 in Muskegon, Michigan.  Her stepmother was Cora Vos LeFevre.  Margaret Mary LeFevre married Leo Kelly in 1937.  SHE WAS PRECEDED in death by her husband in 1978 and by her daughter, Jeanne (Kelly) Langeland and also a brother, Charles LeFevre both in 1971.  Mrs. Kelly was baptized, married and a lifelong member of St Jean’s Catholic Church.  She was a charter member of Widows Together, a volunteer for the Red Cross, member of the St. Anne’s Society and was “Mother of the Year” in 1954.  She is SURVIVED BY six sons, David (Rae) of Chatham, New Jersey, Philip (Chris), Kevin (Sue) and Charles, all of Muskegon, Brian (Mary) of Grand Rapids and Richard Kelly of Miami, FL; five daughters, Ann Elise Kelly of Muskegon, Patricia (John) MacAskill and Margaret Mary “Peggy” Kelly, both of Chicago, Illinois, Katherine Kelly of Grand Rapids and Louise (Scott) McClure of Allegan, Michigan; one sister, Frances Jean Mangione of Denver, Colorado; 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister-in-law, Clyta LeFevre of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews.   Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11 at St. Jean’s Catholic Church, Fr. David LeBlanc, Celebrant.  Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation today 12 noon-3 pm and 6  pm-8 pm at St. Jean’s Catholic Church, which includes a 7 pm Scripture Service.  Memorials: St. Jean’s Building Fund or Hospice of Muskegon Co.

GUNN, MRS. BERTHA Formerly of 1764 Apple Ave.Mrs. Bertha Gunn, age 87, passed away early Saturday morning at a local nursing home. She was born June 11, 1900 in Muskegon, and had been a life resident of this area.  She was a member of East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church, where she had been a member of the Dorcus Society. The former Bertha Keur, she married William C. Gunn on June 17, 1925 in Muskegon, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1968. Survivors include 1 daughter; Mrs. Ronald (Lois) Vanderstelt of Lexington, S.C.; 3 grandchildren & 1 great granddaughter; 1 brother; Jacob Keur of Zeeland; & 1 sister; Mrs. Arie (Martha) Kleyn of Muskegon. Funeral Services for Mrs. Gunn will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday from the Systema Chapel. Rev. James Hoogeveen officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery. Friends may begin calling at 7 P.M. this evening, where they may meet the family from 7-9 P.M. & 4-2 & 7-9 P.M. on Monday. Suggested Memorial: The New Hymnal’s Fund of East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church.

Mrs. C.W. Kibbey formerly Mildred Rogers died Sunday morning at her home in Chicago after a short illness at the age of 44 years.  Mr. and Mrs. Kibbey were residents of this city but moved to Chicago about a year and a half ago.  Mrs. Kibbey is survived by her husband and three children: Martin Kibbey, Webster Kibbey and Thelma Kibbey, two brothers, John Rogers of Muskegon, William Rogers of Chicago and a sister Mrs. ? Page of Chicago.  The body arrived here this morning.  The funeral was held at 4:00 this afternoon at the Clock chapel on Pine street.  Interment was made in Oakwood Cemetery.  (the microfilm was badly scratched and the copy was difficult to read but I was able to read all except the name of her sister)

Mrs. Daisy M. King, age 82, passed away Thursday afternoon at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.  She was born in Twin Lakes, Mi. July 26, 1895 and lived in Muskegon area all of her life.  On October 23, 1948, she married Claud Clay King in the Sacred Heart Church.  Mrs. King is survived by her husband, Mr. Claud C. King; one son Charles Maynard of Muskegon; and one daughter Mrs. Laurine Johnson of Muskegon Heights; one brother Ora Burns of Reed City; and also 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  The funeral service and committal will be held at the Lee Funeral Home, Saturday at 2:00 P.M., with Fr. Robert Rose as celebrant.  She will be laid to rest in the Lakeside Cemetery.  --Lee

Obituary of John Kingshott, Muskegon chronicle, 26 April 1917, page 7  John Kingshott, aged 84, for 47 years a resident of Muskegon, died at Hackley hospital this morning after a lingering illness. Mr. Kingshott was born in England, coming to the United States when five years of age. He came to Muskegon in 1868 where he has since made his home. He was a member of the Fifth Michigan Infantry and served during the Civil war. He leaves three sons; Alfredo of Muskegon, George of Manistee and Charles of Nebraska, three daughters, Mrs. Harvie Rowe of Edmore, Mich., and Mrs. Hans Schwartzfarber and Mrs. Lizzie Studebaker of this city.

MRS. SCHWARZFARBER, HERE 49 YEARS, DIES.  Mrs. Hans Schwarzfarber, 61 years old, died at her home 1387 Pine street, Saturday. She had resided in Muskegon for 49 years. She was born in Chatham, Ontario, and came to Muskegon when she was 12 years old. She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Fred Weidner, Mrs. Leon Nobes, Mrs. Arthur Borgeson, Mrs. Cecil Engle, and one son, LeRoy J. Travis, all of Muskegon; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Studemecker. Of Muskegon, Mrs. Harriet Rowe, of Orlando, Florida, and two brothers, George Kingshott, and Alfred Kingshott of Muskegon, and 11 grandchildren.

J. M. Kissling Found Dead. Joseph M. Kissling, 78 years old, was found dead Friday at his home, 1816 Austin street, by neighbors.  Muskegon Police and John A. DeHorn were called.  According to Mr. DeHorn, Mr. Kissling died of a heart attack in his sleep.  Born in Kenton, Ohio, May 18, 1878, he moved to Grant before coming to the Muskegon area about 40 years ago.  He lived here until his death. In 1907 he married the former Nellie Newman in Ohio.  He worked at Hackley Hospital, Markle Cement Company, Shaw-Walker Company and Bunker School, where he was a custodian for eight years prior to retirement in 1948. He leaves his wife, two sons Herbert and Floyd, both of Muskegon; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Dault, Mrs. William Gagnon, Jr., and Mrs. James McDermott, all of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ludington - Madeline Doris Klopfenstein, age 73, passed away Monday, September 17 at her residence.  Madeline D. Tenney was born November 17, 1927 in Oaklawn, IL and married on December 20, 1944 in Ludington to Clifford Klopfenstein and he survives.  She was a lifelong resident of the Ludington area and a member of the Community Church.  She also attended Ludington Schools.  From 1957 until 1962 Madeline was a distributor for the Grand Rapids Herald, and the Grand Rapids Press.  From 1962 until 1981 she was a concessionaire at the Ludington State Park.  Madeline’s family was the most important part of her life, and she valued her years of treasured experiences and friendships while concessionaires at the Ludington Sate Park.  She’s leaving behind many friends that she’s made over the years and she was a friend to everyone.  Her favorite pastimes were traveling, camping, reading and collecting stones.  She was especially proud to have her father, husband, brothers, sons and grandsons serve in the Armed Forces of the United States.  Surviving besides her husband, Clifford, are her children: Karen Sue (Don) Foster of Hart, Dan (Pam) Klopfenstein of TN, Dick (Kathy) Klopfenstein of IL, Kim Klopenstein of Coopersville, Karen (Dave) Dean of Coopersville, Stacy (Robert) Sutton of Ludington; grandchildren, Brian Foster, Joy & Steven Kloopfenstein, Paul Klopfenstein, Keri Kolpanen, Michael & Mark Dean, Mandi and Devon Sutton; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Bill Tenney of WI; nieces, nephews, and many friends.  She was preceded in death by  her parents, Leon and Rose Tenney; brothers, Herbert, Donald and Leon Tenny; 1 grandson, Bret Foster.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 20 at 2:00pm at Alexander Rye Funeral Home with the Rev. Rich Loerop officiating.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 19, from 2-4 and 7-9pm.  Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Michigan, Mason County, or to the Community Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Knevitt, 18 months old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Knevitt, 821 Hoyt street, Muskegon Heights died Thursday at Mercy hospital after an illness of seven weeks.  She was born July 8, 1938 in Muskegon.  Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers, James III and Donald L. at home; and her grandmother Mrs. Minnie Knevitt, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ora King, all of Muskegon.

Knoll, age 69 years, passed away Thursday morning at Muskegon General Hospital after a lingering illness, Born October 4, 1900 in Allendale, Michigan and came to Muskegon when she was 17 years old and has lived here until her death. She was the former Iva B. Gunn and was married to John R. Knoll on September 21, 1921 at Muskegon. She had been employed as a cook at several bible Camps, Shildren’s Home and also operated a restaurant at Dalton at one time. She was a Charter member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church; active in the Ladies Fellowship and had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. She is survived by her husband, John R. Knoll; two sons, Kenneth E. Knoll and Duane A. Knoll, both of Muskegon; 13 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Earl DeNio of Muskegon and Mrs. Victor Wolbrink of Allendale; one brother, Arthur Gunn of Muskegon. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Sytsema Chapel, Rev. Harry W. Logan officiating and the interment will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Illness.   He was born Feb. 11, 1890 in Muskegon and has resided here all his life. He was married to the former Iva B. Gunn Clark on Sept. 21, 1921 at Muskegon and she passed away on Jan. 15, 1970. He had been employed at Teledyne Continental Motors Corp. for 28 yrs. until his retirement 20 years ago. He was affiliated with grace Memorial Baptist church and was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth E. and Duane A. Knoll, both of Muskegon; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Ralph Knoll of Muskegon. KNOLL, MR. KENNETH E.  (with veterans flag) Muskegon, Mi Mr. Kenneth E. Knoll, 72, died at his residence Tuesday afternoon, May 30, 1995. He was born in Muskegon on November 3, 1922 and was a lifelong resident of the community. Mr. Knoll married Ella M. Kellogg in Muskegon on Sept. 7, 1945. He was a WWII veteran of he U.S. Army and was retired form the City of Muskegon where he worked as a mechanic for many years. Mr. Knoll was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Knoll is survived by his wife, Ella, I son and four daughters, Karen (Randy) Muscato, Jane (Lou) Graham, Robert (Pam) Knoll, Losi Ann (Randy) Westerlund, Wendy (Kris) Ford; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; I brother, Duane (Sondra) Knoll; 2 sisters, Bessie England and Yvonne (Charles) Berghuis, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Knoll will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 1, 1995 at the cemetery chapel in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Pastor Don LeMaire and Pastor Harry Logan officiating. Miss Knooihuizen, Spent Life Here, Dies at Age 87  Miss Jennie Knooihuizen, a bookeeper at the James Coyne Plumbing Co. for many years before her retirement, died at a local nursing home Friday after an illness of several months. She was 87 and had made her home at 1219 Third St.  Born in Holland May 25, 1880, Miss Knooihuizen came here while still a child and attended Muskegon schools. She was a member of Central Reformed Church and a member of the Ladies Guild of the Church.  She is survived by two nephews, Albertus Knooihuizen, of Summerland, British Columbia, and Chester Knooihuizen of Franklin, PA., and two nieces, Mrs. Walter Way of Muskegon, and Mrs. Loretta Squelch, of Buffalo, NY

This is a very long article that is difficult to read because the microfilm is scratched badly.  I will only include the basics in this posting and if you find you have a connection I'll scan the copy I have and you can try and read the complete story.  Norton Man Auto Victim  John Knooihuizen, 70, Hit by Car Driven by Henry Neiting, Mr. of Grand Haven  RR1, well known Norton Township resident and retired grocer died at Hackley Hospital last night he was hit by a car when getting out of his son Raymond's car and crossing the street to go home he ran a grocery store on Walton and Terrace for about 30 years born at North Holland December 8, 1866 and came to Muskegon 52 years ago he was married to Miss Gertrude Waalkes April 16, 1902 at Muskegon he was a member of the Bethany Christian Reformed Church survived by his wife, son Raymond and daughter Mrs. James Kilm?? of Lansing, three grandchildren, two brothers, Matthew of Minneapolis and Dr. Albert Knooihuizen of Holland and three sisters, Mrs. ? Lo?ker, Miss Margaret and Mrs. Laura Knooihuizen all of Holland, Michigan

Rena Knooihuizen, 90, Succumbs Today; Resident Since 1867
Mrs. Rena Knooihuizen, 90 years old, died today at her home 1219 Third Street, after a four months illness. She was born Nov. 5, 1842 in the Netherlands and came to this country in 1867 settling in Muskegon and always making her home here. Her maiden name was Rena Berghuis. Her husband Reme Knooihuizen died 10 years ago. Mrs. Knooihuizen is survived by three daughters, Miss Margaret and Miss Jenny Knooihuizen at home, and Mrs. Ed Buikema of Muskegon; one son, Albertus Knooihuizen, of Wayburn, Saskatchawan; eight grandchildren and six-great grandchildren.

S.J. Knooihuizen, Stockbroker, Dies  A veteran Muskegon stockbroker and investment counselor who was active in civic affairs died today at Hackley Hospital.  Samuel J. Knooihuizen, 1114 Randall Rd, who spent more than 30 years handling the investments of Muskegon area residents, died following a long illness.  Mr. Knooihuizen was a partner in the firm of Gibson and Knooihuizen which later became affiliated with First of Michigan Corp. and now is known as William C. Roney & Co.  A Muskegon resident his entire life, Mr. Knooihuizen was married to the former Ann Kaanar. A graduate of Muskegon High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin. 
Mr. Knooihuizen was active in many civic affairs, serving as president of the Crippled Children's Society of Muskegon.  A candidate for the Muskegon City Commission, he served in 1942 on a committee of brokers which worked with the Michigan Corporation and Securities Commission to revise the laws governing investments in the state. A member of the Muskegon elks, the Century Club, Lovell Moore Lodge F. & A.M., the Dewitt Clinton Consistory, the Muskegon Shrine Club and other groups, Mr. Knooihuizen attended First Congregational Church.  Surviving are his widow; a son Samuel at home, a sister, Mrs. Esther Way of Muskegon, and an aunt, Miss Jennie Knooihuizen of Muskegon Cemetery Evergreen Cemetery  Lot #2-22-8

Mrs. Herbert left Muskegon in 1930. Her husband, David Herbert, died here several years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Margaret Herbert, Muskegon, and Mrs. Lillian Christianson, Belding; two sons, Clarence Herbert, Belding, and Robert Herbert, Carthage, N.Y., a sister, Mrs. Emily Totten, Belding and two sisters in Chicago.

Muskegon Reporter, Aug 12, 1859 - CASUALTY - On Wednesday, last, a young man named Kraydemer, in the town of Ravenna, in this county, fell from a loaded wagon upon a three-tined pitchfork, which inflicted upon his person four distinct and dangerous wounds.  We obtained no farther particulars.....

The funeral of Miss Jennie Kregel was held this afternoon at the residence, 5 W. Irwin street.  The Rev. Henry Bultema, pastor of First Christian Reformed church, officiating.  he was assisted by the Rev. I. J. Fles.  Interment took place in Oakwood cemetery.

Paul Kubicek, Retired Norge Employe, Dies  Paul Kubicek, 69, of 6250 Heights-Ravenna road, retired Norge employe died at Hackley Hospital Wednesday, after a brief illness.  Mr. Kubicek was born in Czechoslovakia Feb 14, 1891, and came to the United States in 1906, settling in Muskegon Heights. Seven years ago he moved to Sullivan Township.  He was employed at Norge Division's assembly department for 21 years, retiring four years ago.  On May 9, 1953, he married the former Katherine Repta in Muskegon, she survives.  Other survivors are five sons, Paul and Edward Kubicek, both of Elmwood Park, Ill., William Kubicek of Muskegon, Albert Kubicek of Grand Haven and Louis Kubicek of Fruitport Township; four daughters, Mrs. John Kopecky of Fox Lake, Ill., Mrs. Henry Schmidt of Muskegon Heights, Mrs. Oscar Schultz of Fruitport Township and Mrs. Henry Klielchen of Sawyer; two step-sons, Steve and John Repta of Muskegon, two step-daughters, Mrs. Virgil McClain and Mrs. Andrew Hegedus, both of Muskegon; 42 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral at Lee Funeral Home.
